Nearly everyone who has a shower uses shower doors of shower curtains. While shower curtains are quite frequently used in combination with a bathtub, many people make use of shower doors if they have a separate shower enclosure. They have a few advantages. First of all they are watertight, but they also look much more elegant and usually let much more light pass into the inside of the shower. This allows for a much more comfortable and natural feeling inside the shower. These doors come in various variations. They can either consist of plastic or glass and they come with frames or without them. The frameless type made of glass looks very elegant and has become very trendy recently.

Do You Even Want A Shower Door?

Before you can think about a nice new glass shower door you have to figure out if a shower door is really what you want. For many bathrooms it is better to choose a shower curtain. Shower curtains are recommended if you tend have your shower in a bathtub, and not in a separate shower stall. If you use a shower enclosure however, a shower door should be your preference. Generally speaking, shower doors look more elegant and are often a worthy addition to your bathroom while shower curtains often look improvised and a bit dilapidated.

Do You Even Want Glass?

Many people are afraid that glass might be harmful if they have a slip. They believe that glass can break fairly easily and the fragments might hurt them. However, that is not true for modern glass. Most doors are made from safety glass which will most likely not break, and even if it does, it will break into pieces that are not sharp enough to hurt you. Glass has however a fair amount of advantages. Its look is unmatched and the effort necessary to keep it clean is tiny compared to all the other materials. The only downside glass has, compared to plastic or similar materials, is its price, which is like 30%-50% above the price of plastic shower doors.

Clear Or Frosted Glass?

This is more or less a matter of taste. There are a couple of things to consider. The first and most important thing you have to take into account is how bright your shower stall will be if you use frosted glass. It takes away a fair amount of light and that is something that can end up creating a fairly claustrophobic environment in your shower enclosure. If there is a light right above your shower you will most likely be fine with frosted glass as well. If there is not you might have to consider using clear glass. There is also a possibility to use a combination of frosted and clear glass. This combination usually consists of frosted glass up to around head height and continues with clear glass above it. This way a lot of light can enter your shower stall and you still experience some privacy.

Have you noticed the bathroom upgrading trend in the last couple years? Bathrooms are now more like spa rooms. The sizes are getting larger and the decor is getting more elaborate. The average price tag for a bathroom make over has soared. Bathrooms are stealing space from adjacent guest rooms or closets and even having bump outs on the exterior wall of the home. Some baths are large enough to have easy chairs or exercise equipment in them. Wow! Not all of us are going to spend $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 to remodel our bath rooms. We will however want to make them nicer, especially if we plan on selling our home in the near future.

We can do a lot to make our bathroom look like a designer decorated it. One way is to be careful in choosing the right shower stall. The shower stall should not feel dark or cramped when you are using it. The shower head you choose can make a lot of difference. The rain shower heads are great. Benches are popular in the new shower stalls. You can choose from many ready to install units or build one with ceramic tile walls and floor. You can still combine a bath tub and shower. Keep in mind your budget and space to work with.
